BLOG: Wild Boars heading to the National Championship

After the last week of the regular season where we went to Novi Sad and got our ass kicked, it was a 180 degree turn around the 2nd time we went up there by beating the Dukes of Novi Sad 29-6 where they did not score til the 4th quarter.  It was total domination on the part of the Wild Boars which started with the defense who had close to double digit sacks, plenty more QB knockdowns and 3 interceptions which one was taken to the house by Milorad our DE who one handed snagged a screen pass and took it about 40 yards then 360 dunked it over the goal post to seal the victory and secure our spot in the Serbian National Championship game.  If you want to see the full story with pictures and everything else Safety-blitz has to offer go to www.safety-blitz.net

It was a great victory since there was not much difference in personal between the two weeks with the exception we got one of our OL back who performed beautifully but we also lost one of our starting DBs but luckily for us we are pretty deep in that position.  The team executed the game plan to perfection and the defense took pride in getting their hands on the quarterback over and over again.  This was the most sacks and most interceptions we had in a single game and it came at the best time when we had our backs to the wall of elimination and missing our chance to play in the championship game.  I’m very proud of our guys as they came to play and they would not be denied.  You could see it when my center Comi went down and was grabbing his knee and I though it was bad, he kept saying the same thing over and over in Serbian so i asked china what he was saying.  He told me he said “Im going to play!!, I’m going to play!!”  As he was laying there they wrapped his knee up he came out for one play and then he was back in there fighting with the rest of the team to get the win we needed.  Our opening drive we started off pretty decent then a fumble gave Novi Sad the ball around mid field.  Our D came up with a 3 and out like they did allot of the game.  In the 2nd half we had a 3rd and 25 deep in our own territory after a holding and a false start, Trey went into the huddle and told the guys “there is no F’ing way we are going to put the ball.  They broke the huddle Stephan dropped back hit Trey on a skinny post, dodged the safety and went 87 yards for the touchdown.  After that we had so much momentum that when Milorad had his pick six it was icing on the cake and what ended the game.  After the game when we were all in the circle I had to give the Championship belt to Trey McVey our American Import.  He had a huge hit on the sideline when the receiver was trying to get extra yards and then the next play he tried to catch another pass and Djole our 3 time Belt winner gave the same kid a punishing shot.  After that he did not want any more of our defense.  Our defense has been a very physical group all year, they pursuit to the ball relentlessly and even if the ball carrier breaks a tackle or even two we have more guys there ready for the hit.

This week now we have to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia to play the Silverhawks (defending CEFL champions) for the right to play Vukovi (yes again) in the Central European Football League Championship.  Last time we beat them by 14 so if we win we are in, and also, if we lose by less than 14 we are also in since its between us 2 for the 2nd spot in the final.  If we play the way we played last weekend in the Serbian semi finals I am very confident that we will come out of Ljubljana with a big win and then play in both finals.  Ljubljana is a very beautiful city.  I was there last summer when I was backpacking/hitchhiking though Eastern Europe with Kasia.  There is a river that runs though the middle of it and in the city center there are always festivals, music, party boats, and lights all over.  I am looking forward to going back and experiencing the city again.  We leave Friday night here late so we can take the 10+ hr bus ride arrive Saturday morning have the whole day to relax and explore the city, meet back up for dinner and team meetings and then Sunday we play and take care of business.  One of the bad things for us and this Ljubljana trip is that we play on Sunday,  wont get back home till Monday morning and then we have a short week for what could be 2 championship games combined into one.  CEFL did a very poor job with the scheduling and just another thing that has not and will not go our way this year but my guys have put their heads down and just fought and stayed focused though everything we have encountered this season.  In the end this will make them much stronger as a club since nothing and I mean nothing has come easy for them this season.  My comment in my last post rings true for the team as much now as it ever has.

“You can judge a character of a man by the way he handles adversity, does he take his ball and go home or does he fight till the end no matter what the outcome is.”

Our guys have defiantly fought and  handled adversity very well this year, it has not been easy going though what they have had to endure as a team and personally.  I truly respect every one of my guys who steps on the field every day and fights for the team.  Sure some of the guys might not like each other, but what team that has 60+ guys on a team will get along all the time.  But when it comes down to it they have each others back and will fight for the team and each other for the one goal that we, and every team has…Getting to and winning the Championship.
