Budding Golden Bears offer promising team to commits

The Golden Bears add two Alberta commits to their Class of 2017.

Linebacker, Reiss Flunder, from Notre Dame High School and defensive back, Matthew Del Degan, from Bishop O’Byrne High School will be heading to the provincial capital after signing with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

Hailing from Red Deer, Alberta, Reiss Flunder didn’t want to stray too far from home. He said he chose the University of Alberta because of its proximity. He added that, “I saw a program on the rise at U of A.”

The 5’11, 220lbs eight-year veteran was also impressed with the team’s head coach, Christopher Morris. “I like his coaching style and the emphasis on school,” the future Kinesiology student said.

Flunder has suited up for the Notre Dame Cougars (Central Regional Central Alberta Schools Athletic Association), the Prairie Fire (Calgary Area Midget Football Association) and the U16 edition of Team Alberta. He is a 2016 Central Alberta champion and a three-time all-star.

The new season can’t come soon enough. “I’m very excited to get started,” Flunder said.
