Carleton Ravens believe recruit CFC60 LB Cavanagh is a ‘game changer’

Ravens dip into the Québec recruiting pool for one of their first Class of 2018 commits.

CFC60 Louis Cavanagh from Collège André-Grasset has made quite a name for himself in the RSEQ, and now one of the top 50 linebackers from the cégep circuit is already making waves in U Sports after signing with the Carleton Ravens.

“He is the first player we have recruited out of André-Grasset, one of the best cégeps in Québec, and we are extremely excited and proud to welcome Louis into the Ravens family,” Ravens head coach Steve Sumarah said.

“Louis is a game changer for our program,” Sumarah added. “He epitomizes everything a student-athlete should be, an excellent student and an amazing football player.”

Always seeking to improve, Cavanagh, who is interested in chemistry and neuroscience, is ready to continue growing with his new team. “I think that they have everything to make me the best player and the best student possible,” he said.

With his sights set on the U Sports greatest prize, the Vanier Cup, Cavanagh has faith in the Ravens coaches. “I very (much) like the people they are and how they seem to care about football,” Cavanagh said. “I have no doubts that I’m in good hands.”

Standing at 6’2, 230lbs, Cavanagh was the 2016 MVP for Les Phénix d’André-Grasset (RSEQ Division 1). Last season, the product of Laval, Québec, registered 43 tackles, 2 quarterback sacks and two interceptions. While Les Phénix reached the 2016 Bol D’or, the team fell short of capturing the top prize. It is a fact that will no doubt be in the back of his mind this season.

Before joining Les Phénix, Cavanagh spent five years with his high school team, Les Scorpions de l’École secondaire Armand-Corbeil (RSEQ).

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
