CFC # 1 Michael O’Connor has made it official

The 6ā€™5, 233 pound quarterback from Ottawa, Ontario has officially signed with NCAA FBS team Penn State Nittany Lions for the 2014 season. The Nittany Lions were the front runners in the Oā€™Connor sweepstakes. Ā Equally, O’Connor was at the top quarterback that Penn State was actively recruiting.

Back in March, the Ontario pivot visited the school.Ā  Two weeks after the visit, the NCAA Division 1, Big Ten Conference team made an offer.

Other schools that were in contention for Oā€™Connor include Missouri, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Alabama and Arkansas.

With his commitment, Penn State now appears to have an All-Canadian backfield.Ā  O’Connor joins Nittany Lions sophomore running back Akeel Lynch – a native of Toronto, Ontario.

Oā€™Connor has been playing at the IMG Football Academy in Braneton, Florida, where he is currently training with former Heisman Trophy winner Chris Weinke. O’Connor also attended Baylor in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Ā Previous to playing football south of the border, the Ontario quarterback suited up for the Ashbury Colts of the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA), where he led the team to a conference title.Ā  Additionally, he played for the Orleans Bengals of National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA).Ā  The Bengals won the leagueā€™s ā€˜Aā€™ Championship in 2010.

Oā€™Connor has been honoured for his exceptional play on the field throughout his career.Ā  Those achievements include:Ā  Colts MVP (2010), Championship MVP (2010), All-Star MVP (2010), top Junior player at the New England Patriotā€™s Football Camp (2010), top Senior quarterback, and player at Patriots Camp (2011), invite to the Top Prospects Camp at the University of Oklahoma and honours for his performances at NUC combines in Rochester, Delaware, as well as the University of Syracuse Camp.
