CFC “CEGEP POWER 5” (2): Major shakeup bringing in a new #1!!!

Only two weeks into the season and no doubt this is going to be an interesting one. The CFC CEGEP Power 5 underwent a major upheaval due to some interesting week two action and it only promises to get better. The biggest news of the week was courtesy of the Limoilou Titans who got their first ever D1 win. In only their second game ever at D1 and their first at home, les Titans knocked off previous Power 5 team Montmorency 27-7. With the win Limoilou cracked this week’s CFC CEGEP Power 5 debuted at #5.

Limoilou’s first win was the biggest news but not the only news of the week. CNDF continued to impress, the Cougars look like a threat and Vanier’s struggles continued. When it was all said and done there was a new #1 and on that note here are the week two “CFC CEGEP POWER 5″.

WEEK TWO CFC CEGEP POWER 5 (Last week’s “Power 5” ranking in parenthesis):

1) LE NOTRE DAME DEΒ COLLEGEΒ NOTRE DAME-DE-FOY (CNDF) (2) 2-0 (won 40-23 vs. Vanier)

Alexis CΓ΄tΓ© had 150 yards rushing behind an outstanding group effort by CNDF’s O-lineΒ CNDF improved to 2-0 and took over top spot in the “Power 5”. As impressive as CΓ΄tΓ© and the offense were, the true catalyst for the win was the defense. The CNDF defenders registered four QB sacks and two picks in the win. CNDF was one of the preseason favourites and have looked solid in the early going and coupled with Vieux MontrΓ©al’s second straight lackluster take over top spot. (Next Up – Garneau)

2) CHAMPLAIN-LENNOXVILLE COUGARS (3) 2-0 (won 42-13 vs.Γ‰douard-Montpetit)

The Cougars cruise 42-13 against an over-matched Γ‰douard-Montpetit and improve to 2-0, climbing to #2 in the process. Last year’s runners-up look like early contenders and face an early season test next week against #3 LΓ©vis Lauzon.Β  (Next Up – #3 LΓ©vis-Lauzon)

3) LES FAUCONS DE LÉVIS-LAUZON (NR) 2-0 (won 32-17 vs.André-Grasset)

Les Faucons crack Power 5 debuting at #3. Overlooked last week in favour of AndrΓ©-Grasset, les Faucons left no doubt in anyone’s mind knocking off Grasset 32-17.Β RaphaΓ«l Faucher stood out with ten tackles and three sacks in the win.

So far in 2015 les Faucons have outscored the opposition 101-47 and have looked impressive doing so. With Champlain-Lennoxville up next, LΓ©vis-Lauzon takes on a higher ranked opponent for the second week in a row and will have an another opportunity to prove the rankings wrong. (Next Up – #2 Champlain-Lennoxville)

4) LES SPARTIATES DU VIEUX MONTRÉAL (1) 2-0 (won 26-21 vs. Garneau)

I know I quoted Ric Flair last week and said until they lose….but after a second straight unimpressive five point win, this time over 0-2 Garneau and les Spartiates just don’t look like the provinces best team. Vieux drops three spots to #4 . (Next Up – Vanier)

5) LES TITANS DE LIMOILOU (NR) 1-1 (won 27-7 vs. Montmorency)

Simon Rowley-Bernard rushed for 114 yards and a score on 20 carries to lead the way offensively whileΒ Julien Matte-Lajoie led the defense with nine tackles. The two Gabriel’s, Brault and Saint-Pierre also scored touchdowns in the win. Unfortunately there’s not much time to celebrate as a familiar foe, AndrΓ©-Grasset are up next . (Next Up – AndrΓ©-Grasset)

***Honourable Mention*** Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu

***Dropped Out*** Montmorency, AndrΓ©-Grasset
