CFC CEGEP β€œPOWER 5” (8): Only one week left, who will finish Numero Uno??

There is no doubt, I said it at the midway point of the season and I will say it again heading into the final weekend of the regular season; Parity is the name of the game at the RSEQ’s D1 level. With only one week to go in the regular season, only one team has been completely eliminated from playoff contention. Γ‰douard-Montpetit is the only team who know they are officially done, while Vanier, Limoilou and Garneau duke it out for the final invite to the 2015 playoffs.

After a week off for Thanksgiving, teams were back at it last weekend with the biggest news being CNDF’s second straight defeat a 23-19 home loss against Vieux MontrΓ©al. Are les Spartiates coming on or is CNDF slipping….time will tell. With only one week left in the 2015 regular season there were no changes to the CEGEP Power 5, but the rankings are much less certain than last weekend that’s for sure.

WEEK SEVEN CFC CEGEP POWER 5 (Last week’s β€œPower 5” ranking in parenthesis):

1) CHAMPLAIN-LENNOXVILLE COUGARS (1) 8-0 (won 48-11 vs. Montmorency)

Heading into the postseason it looks like it’s the top ranked Cougars and then everyone else. The Cougars have outscored their opponents 278-125 en route to their 8-0 record and have shown absolutely no signs of a letdown during that stretch. With the league’s top ranked passer and receiver (QB Mike Arruda and REC Marc-Antoine Pivin) and second leading rusher (Thomas Bertrand-Hudon), the Cougar’s offense comes at you like an avalanche. Clearly the favourite to win it all. (Next Up: @ #4 Vieux MontrΓ©al)

2) LE NOTRE DAME DE COLLEGE NOTRE DAME-DE-FOY (CNDF) (1) 6-2 (lost 23-19 vs. Vieux MontrΓ©al)

Three weeks ago there was a huge debate regarding who was number one, CNDF or the Cougars…..how fast things can change was! After falling for the second straight game, CNDF are in jeopardy of falling as far as fourth place. (Next Up: @ #3 LΓ©vis- Lauzon)

3) LES FAUCONS DE LÉVIS-LAUZON (3) 6-2 (won 58-7 @ Édouard-Montpetit)

Thanks to the CNDF loss les Faucons can now finish as high as second and guarantee home field all the way to the final. The defense has been coming on in the last few weeks and this could be the dark horse to knock of Lennoxville. (Next Up: @ Γ‰douard-Montpetit)

Β Frederic Paquette-Perrault 2015

4) LES SPARTIATES DU VIEUX MONTRÉAL (4) (5-3) (won 23-19 vs. CNDF)

Big win for Vieux as they serve notice to the rest of D1; the defending champs aren’t ready to give up their crown without a fight. (Next Up: vs. #1 Champlain-Lennoxville)

5) LES PHΓ‰NIX D’ANDRΓ‰ GRASSET (5) (4-4) (won 32-18 vs. Garneau)

Les PhΓ©nix locked up a playoff spot last week and with one of the league’s best defenses, they will be a tough “out” in the 2015 postseason. (Next Up: @ Montmorency)

HONOURABLE MENTION: SAINT-JEAN (D2) VALLEYFIELD (D2)

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
