#CFC10 Summer Previews and Predictions – JV(3)

Week three already and no time to rest as the action in the Ontario Summer season is really starting to take on mid season form. With the “getting your feet wet” period out of the way. Teams are already starting to jockey for position as each week becomes more crucial due to the limited number of invitations to the annual postseason ball. Amazing, only week three and playoff talk! Such is life in the competitive OVFL and OFC.

Here are the predictions for the featured games of week three at the Junior Varsity level:

#7 Cumberland Panthers(2-0) @ #10 Toronto Thunder(1-1)

The matchup: Two top ten teams set to do battle in Hogtown this weekend, it’s early in this season, but this one will go a long way in determining Wettges division positioning. Cumberland has looked very, very impressive while Toronto is a bit of a question mark. An early season contender they lost a close one to defending champ Myers and won a close one against a much improved Oshawa Hawkeyes squad.

What will happen: Cumberland’s ground game has been something else so far and dual threat QB Alex Lawrie can cause a defensive coordinator nightmares. The Thunder are good……the Panthers are better.

Final Score: Cumberland 31 Toronto 21

Niagara Spears(1-0) @ Brampton Bulldogs (1-1)

The matchup: Another classic early season matchup, the winner will be off and running the loser will begin an uphill battle. Sure it’s early but again playoff spots are limited. The Spears boast an opportunistic defence which forced five turnovers in their season opening win. Both teams have looked one dimensional on offence, prolific at running the ball, but passing yards hard to come by.

What will happen:

The bottom line here is stop the run, neither team has looked particularly efficient passing the ball and the team who has any success passing will win. Look for two tough defenses and two solid ground games, when the dust settles, it should be a heck of a game, with the Spears going 2-0.

Final Score: Niagara 24 Brampton 20
