#CFC10 Summer Previews & Predictions – JV (5): Midway point features Top 10 head-to-head battles!

With the upheaval in the #CFC10 the past few weeks, the debate has heated up as to who is the best? With the midway point officially upon us the debate is sure to rage on and then start to quell as top ten teams do battle. The homestretch always has and always will settle once and for all any debate, in the only true fashion it can be settled….on the gridiron.

JUNIOR VARSITY (UNDER 17) PREDICTIONS WEEK 5:

#9 NIAGARA SPEARS (2-1) @ #1 CAMBRIDGE LIONS (3-0)Β  – Sat. June 20th 18h00 Jacob Hespeler Field

THE MATCHUP: The Lions come in a much disputed #1 and can prove they deserve top spot with a win against a very strong Niagara team. The Spears are coming off a tight loss to a London squad who is ranked third in the province and will need to bounce back in a hurry. Both Niagara and Cambridge are run first and for that matter run second and third as well. Point is they run and do so very effectively.

CAMBRIDGE PLAYERS TO WATCH: RB Elvis Sanchez, LB Jack Hinsperger, DB Dax Van Velzer, DB Reid Barber

NIAGARA PLAYERS TO WATCH: RB/REC Cole Burniston, LB Jack Scordino, DB Jake Porter, DB Reid Wiley, RB Maksym Nazartchyk

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: The Spears have a little more depth and expect their defense to rise to the occasion and contain (not shut down) Sanchez en route to a tight win. The Lions stay at #1 will come to an end.

FINAL SCORE: NIAGARA 36 CAMBRIDGE 31

Devin Claypole 1

#6 PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES (4-0) @ #7 NORTH HALTON CRIMSON TIDE (4-0)Β  – Sat. June 20th 15h00 Georgetown District HS

THE MATCHUP: Two North rivals go at it with the victor laying claim to top spot in the OFC North. On paper there is not a whole lot separating the two teams, they are both 4-0, North Halton has surrendered 29 points to Peterborough’s 28 and both teams are the only two teams TO top 200 points so far as Peterborough has scored 223 to the Tide’s 212.

PETERBOROUGH PLAYERS TO WATCH: Cam Gilmore, Joe Bencze, Keegan Crough, Nick Clarkin

NORTH HALTON PLAYERS TO WATCH: RB Josh Coelho, RB Alex Leduc, LB McDonough

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Talk about a coin toss, there is nothing separating these two teams…nothing. This game redefines coin toss and I can’t say why, but Peterborough wins a very close, exciting game. If you have a chance, check it out!

FINAL SCORE: PETERBOROUGH 30 NORTH HALTON 28

OTHER TOP TEN PREDICTIONS:

OFC – #5 HAMILTON HURRICANES 30 #8 GUELPH JR GRYPHONS 22 – Hurricanes are tested in this one, but pull away in the fourth.

OVFL – #4 MYERS RIDERS 44 OSHAWA HAWKEYES 14 – JP Cimankinda can carry a team, he doesn’t need to with Myers, but he can.

OVFL – #2 BURLINGTON STAMPEDERS 52 SARNIA STURGEONS 0 – Stamps are too much for Sarnia, will be over before the half.
