#CFC10 SUMMER RANKINGS – VARSITY (3): ‘Canes still #1 & Dolphins make their debut!

With games of consequence on the menu almost every weekend, it seems like movement is inevitable in each week’s #CFC10 Summer Rankings.

Although early in the season, Week 2 was no different as the Cumberland Panthers left as quickly as they came, dropping out of the top 10 after only a one week stay. The Panthers were involved in a defensive battle and in less than ideal conditions fell at home 8-7 home to the Kingston Grenadiers.

Taking their place in the Top 10 are the OFC’s Burlington Stampeders, off to a 2-0 start.

Here are the Varsity Top 10 Rankings for Week 2 in Ontario summer action:

VARSITY (UNDER 20) TOP TEN RANKINGS – WEEK 2 (last week’s ranking in parenthesis)

1) HAMILTON HURRICANES (1) 2-0 OFC (won 37-0 vs. Chatham Kent) A 20 point explosion in the second quarter illustrated just how quickly the aptly name Hurricane offence can strike. Looking every bit as potent as their 2013 and 2014 teams, the two time undefeated champions are clearly in the mix for a three-peat.

2) NIAGARA SPEARS (2) 1-0 OVFL (did not play)

3) OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS (3) 2-0 OVFL (won 68-7 vs. Cornwall) According to Taylor Swift, the players are gonna to play, play play, play….well Myers is gonna score, score, score, score. It looks like another long season for opposing defenses as the Riders have broken the century mark in only two games. Myers Riders first year and OPC pivot Jacob Spinella looked good firing five touchdown strikes while amassing 322 yards through the air.

4) SAULT STE. MARIE SABERCATSΒ  (4) 2-0 OVFL (won 39-0 vs. Brampton) The Sabercats vaunted defense has not disappointed thus far limiting opponents to eight points in two games to start the 2015 season.

5) BRANTFORD BISONSΒ (5) 2-0 OFC (won 30-20 vs. Guelph) Although it’s only Week 2, last weekend’s game against Guelph could easily be a playoff preview. A good early season test but Brantford won’t have any time to bask in the win as next are the top-ranked Hamilton Hurricanes.

6) CAMBRIDGE LIONS (7) (1-0) OVFL (won 36-7 vs. Etobicoke)

7) LONDON JUNIOR MUSTANGS (8) 2-0 OVFL (won 39-35 vs. Hamilton) Running back Cole Kussman picked up 189 rushing yards on 25 carries.

8) ESSEX RAVENS (9) 1-1 OVFL (won 42-24 vs. Mississauga) Essex Ravens bounce back from Week 1 loss.

9) HURONIA STALLIONS (6)Β  2-0 OFC (won 21-7 vs. Oakville)

10) BURLINGTON STAMPEDERS (NR) 2-0 OFCΒ  (won 41-12 vs. Twin Cities) Stamps looking good so far, back in Top 10.

***Honourable Mention***Β  – Durham West Dolphins OVFL, Peterborough Wolverines OFC

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
