CFC100, one other excited to work with StFX coaches

StFX adds two out-of-province commits to their 2020 class.

When CFC100 Tom Brow, an offensive lineman from Saint John High School, and Ben Edison, a linebacker from Ernest Manning High School, were exploring potential schools, they found that the Saint Francis Xavier X-Men gave them all that they needed and wanted.

CFC100 Tom Brow

For Tom Brow, the StFX offered him everything he wanted and more.

β€œI chose StFX because I liked the small school atmosphere and home in the Maritimes,” Brow said. β€œI really liked the coaches, players and academic support offered to players. I also love the X-Ring and want to sport one myself.”

He added that he really liked the coaching staff. β€œHead Coach Waterman is very experienced and promised me he would grow me not only as a player but as a student and as a person. I’m also very excited to work with offensive line coach Dave Van Den Heuvel,” Brow said.

Hailing from Saint John’s, New Brunswick, Brow played for the Saint John High School Greyhounds (NBHSFL) in 2017 and 2019. In 2018, he spent one season with the Saint James Saints in Maryland. Standing at 6’3, 300lbs, the student body president of Saint John High School is interested in taking history. He plans on going into education.

Ben Edison

For Ben Edison, there were plenty of reasons to commit to the X-Men.

β€œWhen I took my official visit, everyone on campus welcomed me with open arms, and I felt like I was at home,” he said. β€œI believe they have a young team that will be in great shape in the next two to three years, and I can’t wait to contribute to that winning culture.”

Edison, who will be taking human kinetics, added that, β€œThe coaching staff is amazing. Jon Svec, the defensive coordinator and linebacker coach, really helped me make my decision by showing me around campus during my time there. I’m extremely excited to get to work with all the great coaches at StFX.”

A resident of Calgary, Alberta, Edison is originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland. In grade 10 he moved out west and began his football career. He has played for the Ernest Manning Griffins (CHSAA) and the Calgary Wildcats. Last November 2019, he helped the Griffins win the Division 1B finals. He was named as the team’s β€˜most outstanding defensive player of the year.’

Edison, who is 6’1, 220lbs, is a multisport athlete. He said he is also a leader in everything he does. He is a former competitive swimmer, and he also played water polo. He was a captain on the Griffins this past season. At the same time, he captained his hockey team and the Griffins ruby team. He was named as the Griffins’ rugby β€˜player of the year’ in grade 10 and 11.
