#CFC100 recruit attracted to Laurier’s energy (VIDEO)

Denfield offensive lineman joins OUA team’s 2015 class.

Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks have announced the addition of #CFC100 Drew Mairleitner to their football program.

The 6’4, 290 pound offensive lineman from Denfield, Ontario will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

“Drew was the top offensive lineman on our recruiting board for this year and we are thrilled to have him,” commented Golden Hawks Head Coach Michael Faulds.  “We watched him closely with Team Ontario in Saskatoon last summer and came away extremely impressed.”

“He will come in and compete right away for us this fall and he immediately makes us a better football team.”

Mairleitner has played for the Medway Cowboys of the Thames Valley Regional Athletic Association (TVRAA).  He has represented the country as a member of Team Canada.

“Drew was good last summer for Team Ontario, but getting to watch him in Texas for Team Canada, I now know how great he can be,” assessed Golden Hawks Offensive Line Coach Irv Daymond.  “He competed and played well against some top level defensive lineman from the US.”

“I know these experiences will help him in this next football chapter here at Laurier.”

For his part, the #CFC100 recruit liked the positive vibe and enthusiasm the OUA team has shown recently.

“I picked WLU because I feel like they are a great program that is really up and coming,” said Mairleitner.  “I believe in the next few years they will be at the top and I want to be a part of that.”

“I also think that Coach Irv is the best Offensive Line Coach in the nation, along with the young energetic coaching staff!”
