#CFC100 signs with Golden Hawks

Ottawa wide receiver becomes third #CFC100 to join OUA team’s 2015 class.

For #CFC100 Kurleigh Gittens, there was never a doubt about where he would begin the CIS chapter of his gridiron career.

On Friday, the 5’11, 178 pound wide receiver from Ottawa, Ontario officially committed to Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. Gittens will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

For Gittens, he was extremely impressed with the interest the Golden Hawks showed him throughout the recruitment process.

β€œFirst of all, I have to thank God for giving me the opportunity to play football,” expressed the #CFC100. β€œThe reason I chose Wilfrid Laurier was because they showed the most interest in having me there, and where I could make the biggest impact first year and years to come.”

β€œI felt like I had a great connection to the coaches and the players. It felt like home. Being in a new environment, it’s always good! They have a good program that I wanted to go in to. This is where I wanted to go. My family supported me which is always good. Another reason is that I was going to commit with a talented defensive back (Khadeem Pierre) which would be great competition to have in practice! To be the best, you have to play the best.”

Among the teams Gittens has played for include midget Orleans Bengals of the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA), Sir Wilfrid Laurier Lancers of the National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association (NCSSAA) and Cumberland Panthers of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

In the 2014 season with the Panthers, the wide receiver racked up 723 yards on 40 receptions and scored seven touchdowns.

With Gittens commitment, he is the third #CFC100 to commit to the Golden Hawks.Β  Running back Osayi Iginuan and offensive lineman Drew Mairleitner are the others.
