We’ve got very little movement at the top of the CFC25 Small School Rankings this week, but four new programs found a way to add some excitement early in the season.
The biggest result came in Saskatchewan where F.W. Johnson jumped onto the list with a huge 27-14 victory of Sheldon Williams, and now sit tied in second place with eyes set on chasing down Greenall. They were the victims of a 19-13 defeat at the hands of the Griffins in week one, and will now be counting the days before they can secure a potential rematch come playoff time. Martin are still hanging around willing to play spoiler, but it’ll take a giant effort to upset F.W. Johnson this week, who are flying high after their win over Sheldon Williams.

We also have a new squad to watch in Saskatoon with Bishop James Mahoney making their first appearance on the rankings this year. They haven’t been as dominant in their victories as some of the top ranked programs, but they don’t ask how, they just ask how many and the Saints are looking like the team to beat in the 5A Division this season coming off 21-9 win over Aden Bowman.
Alberta featured our other headliner this week with Cochrane once again proving they belong in the top ten with a 35-21 victory over formerly ranked George McDougall. This game made room for William Aberhart to make their first appearance on the list after a convincing 3-0 start to the season in Calgary’s second division, but they will need to display some dominance in the region if they want to hold onto their ranking with plenty of Alberta programs vying for a spot, including their division rivals from Our Lady of the Rockies. We are looking forward to their matchup on October 12th, which will likely be for first place in the division if each team can continue to roll through the competition.
CFC100 CLASS OF 2024 RANKINGS
Our final new program making the list come from BC where the regular season is finally underway. Ballenas are making a great argument for one of the top spoilers to watch in the ultra-competitive Coastal Division after taking down AAA Belmont 19-16 in their only preseason game, and then taking no prisoners in their 57-0 blowout victory over Windsor to kickoff the regular season campaign. It’s going to be a tough road with big games against Robert Bateman and Langley on the schedule, but we are intrigued to see how the Whalers stack up against the top teams in BC this year. First they will have to deal with Argyle, who look like they’ll be a handful as well after giving Langley a good scare in a rough 17-6 defeat this past week.
Some other games of note from this past week were Springfield holding on in a 41-32 shootout against Kelvin in Manitoba, Estacades finding a way to grind out a tough 21-7 victory over Jacques-Rousseau and Saint-Joseph defeating Roger-Comtois by a score of 31-21 in Quebec, while W.H. Croxford remained unbeaten in Alberta with their 26-14 victory over Strathmore.
