CFC25 Small School RANKINGS: The CFC25 National Title belongs to Quebec for the first time

Congratulations to every program across Canada who made an appearance on the rankings this season, and a huge thank you to all the dedicated coaches from coast to coast who volunteer their time every year to help our game continue to grow and make the CFC25 Rankings possible. We can’t wait to fire up the engine again in 2026.

  • For the first time in provincial and school history, Dalbe-Viau have been named the CFC25 Small School Rankings National Champions. From start to finish, Dalbe-Viau couldn’t be stopped running the table with an 11-0 record, which extends their winning streak to 16 straight going back to last season. We were hoping for an epic showdown to cap off the year in Quebec, but Dalbe-Viau weren’t interested in any theatrics putting together a dominant 49-14 performance against St-Jean-Vianney to bring home their second straight DII Bol d’Or, and their third in four years. Dalbe-Viau have proven once again they are one of the best run programs in Canada, and are more than worthy of their number one status on the CFC25 Small School Rankings.

  • There’s a couple teams who would be able to file legitimate disputes about the top spot on our rankings, and Vernon are one of those programs after laying waste to Argyle in the British Columbia AA finals. The Panthers looked like a well-oiled machine in their 41-0 victory at BC Place, which capped off a perfect 11-0 season where they outscored their opponents 447-82. They’ve now put together one of the most impressive title runs across the nation bringing home four of the last six AA banners, and it doesn’t look like they plan on slowing down anytime soon. They might not have won the rankings debate this year, but in a perfect would where we could hold a legitimate playoff bracket, nobody would be happy to see themselves lined up with the vaunted Vernon Panthers.

  • One of the best stories across the country this year was the November rise of Austin O’Brien, who went from 10th seed to provincial champions with their 15-14 victory against Holy Trinity Academy in the Alberta Tier II finals. Like we explained last week, the Crusaders are always the toughest team to gauge on these rankings because they play in the top division in Edmonton alongside Harry Ainlay and Salisbury, which means they always have one of the toughest schedules during the regular season, so everyone waits until they show up at the Tier II playdowns to figure out just how good they truly are, and usually they’re one of the last teams standing. Well this year, apparently nobody expected them to rock the boat because they were slotted in as the 10th seed, which in hindsight was a massive miscalculation of their abilities on the field. Keep in mind they also had to navigate the teacher’s strike which robbed them of a huge chunk of their season where presumably they would’ve improved their stock after a slow start to the season, but regardless it’s clear they used the seeding slight as fuel to put together an epic playoff run that saw them blast St. Joseph and Hunting Hills by a combined score of 88-16 in the quarterfinals and semifinals. The ultimate test was defending champions Holy Trinity Academy, and it took a miraculous play to pull it off with Austin O’Brien backed up late in the fourth quarter facing 3rd and 10 from the their own 20 yard line. With two minutes left on the clock, most teams would’ve been ecstatic with a first down to keep their dreams alive, but instead they went for broke on a long bomb that turned into a 90 yard touchdown that secured their second Tier II title in three years. Those are the types of moments you dream about as a kid, and this is the type of run that every player and coach on the Austin O’Brien sideline will cherish for the rest of their lives.

  • We wrap-up our high school season coverage this year with the what now feels like an annual report about Holy Rosary once again claiming the Alberta Tier III championship with a 26-14 win over Cardston. This was the tenth straight appearance for the Raiders in the Tier III finale, and after being the bridesmaid the first six years losing every time to Cochrane, they’ve been able to change the November narrative winning the last four banners. You know their streak will come to an end one day, but at this point it’s hard to figure out who’s going to be the team that can finally knock them off the throne. After defeating Carlton in the preseason this year, who were the defending Saskatchewan 5A champions, we are interested to see if they schedule any other top notch opponents featured on rankings next year.
