- It’s official. We will have a new CFC50 National Champion in 2026 after Ernest Manning dethroned former number one ranked Harry Ainlay in a 23-20 overtime thriller, which means we’ve now got a mad dash to the finish line with multiple teams in contention for the top spot on our final rankings next week. How did we get here? It was an instant classic with these two juggernauts trading haymakers and the lead all afternoon before Ernest Manning nailed a 25 yard field goal with just over two minutes left on the clock to send the game into overtime. After stuffing Harry Ainlay on their first possession of extra time, the football gods blessed the Griffins with a wild turn of events on a deflected field goal attempt that ended up getting recovered by the Griffins past the first down marker to give them a fresh set of downs. In an ending fit for Hollywood, they wouldn’t be denied on their second chance at walk-off glory a few plays later to secure their spot in the Alberta Tier I provincial finals. It’ll be an all-Calgary showdown for the first time since 2015 with Notre Dame leaving no doubt in their semifinals bout against Raymond cruising to a 31-13 victory. These two met way back in the league opener where Notre Dame got the better of Ernest Manning in an 8-7 defensive stalemate, and if that game is any indication, we will be in for an epic battle with provincial and city bragging rights on the line after the Calgary city finals were put on hold due to the October teacher’s strike that shortened the schedule in Alberta. Ernest Manning won their first and only provincial title in 2023, while Notre Dame have been chasing the dragon ever since they took home three straight banners from 2012-2014 before losing to St. Francis in the aforementioned 2015 championship game. We know the trophy will be residing in Calgary, now the only question left to answer is who wants it more?

- It was an intense day of semifinals football action at BC Place featuring two games that went right down to the wire. In the first contest, South Delta did everything they could to hand W.J. Mouat their first loss of the season, but the Hawks lethal passing attack proved to be too much to handle, and their defence stood tall when it mattered most to stave off a late fourth quarter comeback attempt by the Sun Devils to secure their spot in the AAA finals with a 24-17 victory. In the night cap, the defending three time champions Vancouver College put up a valiant effort against Lord Tweedsmuir, but the Panthers rushing attack in the second half took control of the narrative and was ultimately the deciding factor in their 28-23 triumph that brings an end to the Irish reign. This setups up a colossal rematch between Mouat and Tweedsmuir, who met earlier in the year when the Panthers fell victim to the undefeated Hawks in a high scoring 41-33 affair. But that was then, and this is now. Tweedsmuir is in search of their first ever provincial banner with their last attempt coming in 2019 when they fell to Vancouver College. On the other side, you have to scroll all the way back to 2004 to find the last time Mouat took home the AAA title, and their last appearance came in 2010 when they lost to Mount Douglas. The AAA throne has been vacated, and only one team will be able to claim the crown. The stage is set for a mythical night at BC Place to close out the 2025 high school season in Canada.

- There’s always a few programs in Canada that put together a fairytale story throughout the season, and Bishop Ryan is hoping theirs has a happy ending after defeating Assumption 31-7 in the GHAC finals to punch their ticket to the OFSAA Football Festival for the first time in program history. They made GHAC look easy with two blowout victories against their Halton catholic counterparts, but now they’re preparing for the ultimate test with a showdown against third ranked Catholic Central in the Western Bowl. The Crusaders will have experience on their side after defeating W.F. Herman 31-7 at OFSAA last year, but this Celtics team have proven over the duration of the season that they’re Steeltown tough, so we’re anticipating a tremendous display of high school football that could go either way when these two meet between like white lines on Monday afternoon. Can Catholic Central capture their fifth provincial banner? Or will Bishop Ryan write their perfect ending?
- It was one of those games where neither team deserved to lose, but in the end it was A.N. Myer who found a way to outlast Westdale in the SOSSA finals to book their fourth straight trip to the OFSAA Football Festival. The 20-18 victory sends the Marauders to the Golden Horseshoe Bowl where they’ll be taking on 13th ranked Korah, who will be well rested after a couple weeks off, and even better prepared as one of the perennial OFSAA attendees. The Kings of Northern Ontario have now represented NOSSA in six of the last seven festivals, and will be looking to bring their fifth provincial banner back to Sault Ste. Marie after losing for the first time to Huron Heights in the National Capital Bowl last year. A.N. Myer boast a similar track record going 4-2 in their six visits to OFSAA, and are hoping that the bus ride back to Niagara Falls will be a lot happier than last year when they felt nothing but heartbreak after losing 13-10 against Corpus Christi in the Golden Horseshoe Bowl. Two undefeated teams will enter the ring, but only can leave victorious. Who’s it going to be?

- Bishop Ryan won’t be the only first-time visitors at the OFSAA Football Festival after St. Mark earned the right to represent the Nation’s Capital at the big dance with their sensational 20-17 double overtime win against the back-to-back defending champions St. Joseph. It was their first city title since 2021, which just so happened to be the year after COVID-19 shutdown football from coast to coast, and the NCSSAA did not compete in a limited version of the OFSAA Football Festival that was spread out across different cities to avoid large gatherings. Now they’ll finally get their chance to dance in the National Capital Bowl against Paul Dwyer, who will be representing LOSSA for the second straight year after defeating Barrie North in the Simcoe Bowl last season. The Saints will be looking to end their campaign on a high note after losing in the Metro Bowl to Robert F. Hall last week, who are also heading to Guelph to compete in the Central Bowl against St. Joan of Arc for the first time in school history. Will any of our OFSAA rookies make it 1-0 at Alumni Stadium?
- Oh we forgot to mention, we’ve got two more rookies to report. Our last headline of the week belongs to St. James, who pitched a 17-0 shutout against Elmira in the CWOSSA finals to secure their first ever OFSAA bowl appearance. It’s been 27 years since the Lions have called themselves CWOSSA champions, which was during the era when the Metro Bowl was still the only crown jewel event in Ontario. They’ve now earned a date with Holy Names in the Simcoe Bowl, which will serve as the festival’s grand finale on Wednesday night where the stands will be packed to support their hometown heroes. The positive news for Elmira, they’ll also get the chance to compete at OFSAA for the first time in school history when they take on Confederation out of Sudbury in the Independent Bowl featuring the runner-ups from CWOSSA and NOSSA.
