#CFC27: McGill begins the new year at the top, RSEQ & Canada West teams dominate top 5

Not only does the beginning of January mean ringing in a new year (2016), but it also marks the release of the first set of #CFC27 CLASS 2016 CIS RECRUITING CLASS RANKINGS.

Two things have emerged from the first rankings – many teams are catching up to the perennial recruiting powerhouses (i.e. Laval, Western) and that having the most #CFC100 recruits doesn’t translate into grabbing top spot.

Frederic Paquette-Perrault 2015

After a one year hiatus in the #CFC27 Top 5, the McGill Redmen come roaring back in a big way as they are currently the top ranked team.  Highlighting their class is #CFC100 pivot Frederic Paquette Perrault.  The 6’2, 205 pound quarterback recently completed his career with CEGEP Division 1 team, Vieux-Montreal Spartiates.

Andrew Seinet Spaulding commitment

Paquette Perrault is not the only #CFC100 recruit to join the Redmen.  Spartiates’ teammate Andrew Seinet-Spaulding is the other.  The 6’1, 295 pound defensive tackle is from Saint-Laurent, Quebec.

The Redmen also created a CEGEP pipeline as the team has landed eight recruits from Division 1 team, Campus Notre Dame de Foy. That is mainly due to the fact Redmen Recruiting Coordinator Sebastien Levesque was a former coach at CNDF.

There is an Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) recruit on board as well as Kyle Comstive is also a Redmen.  Comstive is a 6’3, 290 pound offensive lineman from Barrie, Ontario.

Brian Harelimana commitment

Meanwhile, Montreal Carabins grab a hold of second place.  Overall, the Carabins have landed the most #CFC100 recruits with five. Among those recruits is linebacker Brian Harelimana, receiver Karym Kartsonis, defensive end/linebacker Samuel Rossi as well as quarterbacks Eric Parr and Alex Campeau-Perreault.

Justice Momoka commitment

Alberta Golden Bears round out the top three and their recruiting class is highlighted by #CFC100 two-way recruit Justice Momoka as well as offensive linemen Travis Derksen, Chris Simonson, Carter O’Donnell and Alex Loosemore.

Marc-Antoine Pivin versus FX-Garneau

Two of the top teams from last year’s #CFC27 rankings take the last two spots in the top five.  On the strength of adding #CFC100 recruits Samuel Lefebvre and receiver Marc-Antoine Pivin, the Laval Rouge et Or come in fourth.

Michael Sherman commitment

Despite the latest recruitment controversy surrounding the UBC Thunderbirds, the team landed in fifth spot.  Among their key acquisitions include four #CFC100 recruits – running back Landon Rose, athlete Michael Sherman, running back Christian Sherman and athlete Trey Kellogg.  Before the CIS Blackout began, Nova Scotia kicking sensation Greg Hutchins transferred to the Thunderbirds from NCAA Division 1 Football Subdivision team, New Mexico Aggies.

In the coming days, CanadaFootballChat.com will have additional stories and news on the CFC 27 CLASS 2016 rankings.
