CFC27 Update (1): Calgary strong out of the gate, Laval leads with quality

It that time of year again where canadafootballchat.com ranks all 27 U Sport program’s recruiting classes. Every week, CFC will be updating total points and average points per player. All U Sport teams are fully up to date with the U Sport Commits page.

Much like last year, the Calgary Dinos have once again flung the doors open and are already on their way to another great recruiting class with a total of 35 commits for a total of 821 total points. With ten CFC100s on their board to date, they are working hard to get all of the young talent both local and out of province into their program. Montreal, Guelph, Laval, and Western all follow suit with healthy recruiting classes of their own – many boasting CFC100s and other blue chip and top end recruits.

That being said, the average points per player is where it gets interesting. While Calgary is leading the charge in total points, on average, Laval is leading the way with the calibre of player at 36.16 points per player. Queen’s is surprisingly right behind them with 30.75. Manitoba signed several CFC100 lineman early on in the season which sees them in the top 5 and Montreal is always hanging around the top 5 with high end recruits.

The rest of the list may surprise you with where the teams sit, but we can say that this year’s efforts at this time are well on the way to becoming another great year for Canadian university football.

Teams are ranked by two different categories: (1) TOTAL POINTS and; (2) AVERAGE PER PLAYER

CFC employs a point system based on the recruits declared in the recruiting class on CFC:

  • Players are rated based on (a) CFC100/60 rankings (b) 4-star ranking (c) 3-star ranking (d) NR
  • POINTS NOT ALLOCATED to (a) Transfers – they would have acquired points in their original class year; (b) International commits who ONLY played outside of Canada prior to U Sports commitment
  • CFC27 is updated approximately once per week (there can be a lag of a few days behind the U Sports commit list)
  • Teams are not ranked until they have a minimum of 5 players on their commit list
