….and now let’s get to it with this week’s #CFC50 Games of the Week

[#CFCscores for BC]

Mount Douglas Rams

No. 21 Mount Douglas Rams – AAA (Victoria, BC) vs John Barsby – AA (Nanaimo, BC) Fri Sept. 9th

The first game of the week features two teams from Vancouver Island. Both teams are powerhouses at their perspective levels. Mount Douglas is the defending AAA champion and Barsby routinely finds itself in the top 4 of the AA division. Both teams are a contrast to the other as John Barsby is a power run team and Mount Douglas is a spread team that throws the ball all over the field. Mount Douglas will be lead by super sophomore and future #CFC100 Gideone Kremler who could arguably be the top player in the province even though he is only in grade 10.

Keys to the game: If Barsby can effectively run the ball, use the clock, and shorten the game, they will have a change at staying in the game.

#CFC50 Prediction: Mount Douglas will cover by 21+ points

VC vs TF

No. 10 Terry Fox Ravens (Port Coquitlam, BC) vs No. 11 Vancouver College Fighting Irish (Vancouver, BC) Fri. Sept 9th

Two unstoppable forces will converge on one another this weekend in the lower mainland as AAA powerhouses Terry Fox will play Vancouver College. Terry Fox is predicted to be the No. 1 team in the province led by what many feel, will be the top player in the province in #CFC100 Jeremy Kankolongo. Their opponent, the Fighting Irish, are probably the winningest program in the province and have traditionally played the Ravens competitively year in and year out. VC has lost a lot of players from last year’s playoff team that made it to the provincial final. The big question is will VC be reloading or rebuilding?

Keys to the game: Can the Irish front shut down Kankolongo? And can the Fox secondary cover the Irish receivers?

#CFC50 Prediction: Vancouver College will win by 7

Notre Dame Pride AB

No. 30 New Westminster Hyacks (New Westminster, BC) vs No. 7 Notre Dame Pride (Calgary, AB)

Fri. Sept. 9th

In this match up, we’ll see one of the top teams in BC, the Hyacks, play against one of the top 2 teams in all of Alberta, in the Notre Dame pride out of Calgary. The game will be played on an American field with American rules which may be advantageous for the Hyacks. This will be the first game of the season for ND and the second game of the season for the Hyacks who return home after a tough loss in Portland, Ore. This will be a competitive game that will feature as many as 4 – #CFC100‘s: ND’s Deane Leonard (DB), Tyler Packer (OL), NWH’s Trew Dancey (safety/OLB), Connor Pattison (LB/long snapper).

Keys to the game: Both teams are coming into the game with younger rosters. The team that makes the least mistakes will probably come out on top in this one.

#CFC50 Prediction: The Notre Dame Pride will win by 3 points by a late field goal on the new turf in New West

ND Jugglers

No. 43 Notre Dame Jugglers (Vancouver, BC) vs STMC (Burnaby, BC) Fri. Sept. 9th

This game can be summed up as the battle of the two private, Catholic high schools. Both teams are coming off seasons they would both like to forget and made significant strides during the off-season through the development of athletes and in some cases the addition of new coaches to the respective coaching staffs. The top player to watch in this game is #CFC100 Mario Marra (LB) who plays for the Jugglers who many feel will be the top, up and coming team in AAA, in BC, this year,

Keys to the game: Can ND just focus on playing football and not lose their composure and discipline? At which case, the game itself won’t be close as STMC is simply not getting the same kind of athletes that they have gotten in the past.

#CFC50 Prediction: ND Jugglers 30, STMC 7

[#CFCscores for AB]

Bev Facey Falcons

No. 3 Bev Facey (Sherwood Park, AB) vs Ross Sheppard (Edmonton, AB) Thurs. Sept. 8th

The big story in this game will be how many yards and touchdowns will #CFC100‘s No. 1 top prospect and Oklahoma State commit, run for and score, in week 1? Is there any way to stop Chubba Hubbard other then building a brick wall?

Keys to the game: Try and stop Hubbard

#CFC50 Prediction: Bev Facey 35, RS 7

Joe Dutton

No. 1 St. Francis Browns (Calgary, AB) vs No. 48 L.C.I. Rams (Lethbridge, AB)  Sat. Sept 10th

Two traditional powers in the province of Alberta. The number 1 ranked team in the country, St. Francis, has long controlled Calgary and the Southern part of the province. LCI used to be just as dominate as St. Francis and has a rich tradition graduating several players who have gone on to the CIS/NCAA and the CFL. This game will feature two #CFC100 prospects, LB Joe Dutton and SB/Rec Jacob Izquierdo. However, LCI will be hard pressed to hang with the Browns. Even with some key losses, St. Francis will dominate the Rams from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.

Keys to the game: How good will the new Browns QB be? and can the Rams take advantage of this?

#CFC50 Prediction: St. Francis will win this game handily

Campbell Tartans

No. 4 Leboldus Golden Suns (Regina, SK) vs. No. 18 Campbell Tartans (Regina, SK) Wed. Sept. 7th

The Battle of Regina. Two of the stronger programs in the city of Regina will tangle early in the high school football season. Leboldus has long held the keys to the city. Will this continue or will the Campbell Tartans give them a run for their money. Leboldus will be led by LB, #CFC100 Nick Cross and RB #CFC100 Semba Mbasela.

Keys to the game: Will the Tartans be able to stop Leboldus’ ground game?

#CFC50 Prediction: Leboldus will win the game by 2 touchdowns

Holy Cross Crusaders

No. 28 Holy Cross Crusaders (Saskatoon, SK) vs. Marion Graham Falcons (Saskatoon, SK)

Thurs. Sept. 8th

At the other end of the province, there will be a battle waging in Saskatoon. where the heavily favoured, Holy Cross Crusaders will have a tough early season matchup versus the MG Falcons. Is there an upset in the air or will the Crusaders crush the birds.

Keys to the game: The Falcons need to have a great start to this game. If they don’t, things could get out of hand early and the nationally ranked Crusaders will run away with the win.

#CFC50 Prediction:  Crusaders 28, MG Falcons 3

[#CFCscores for MB]

VM Trojans

No. 14 Vincent Massey Trojans (Winnipeg, MB) vs. No. 17 St. Paul’s Crusaders (Winnipeg, MB)

Fri. Sept. 9th

Two top 20 #CFC50 teams will collide on Friday in Winnipeg. Each team boasts a top #CFC100 prospect. Shae Weekes for St. Pauls was one of the top athletes/DB’s in the province. The second prospect, Jalen Burley DE from VM, is probably the top defensive line prospect coming out of Manitoba. Both teams traditionally rank in the top 4 provincially, regularly making it deep in the playoffs, and most the time making it to the semi’s and the finals.

Keys to the game: The team that makes the fewest mistakes and limits their turnovers, will give themselves the best chance to win the game.

#CFC50 Prediction: We think the Crusaders will play a better team game and upset the VM Trojans

Tantramar

No. 50 Tantramar Regional Titans (Sackville, NB) vs. Harrison Trimble Trojans (NB) Fri. Sept. 9th

Moncton meets Sackville in this clash of titans and trojans that could potentially show us who will be the team to beat in New Brunswick this season. Both teams will feature a bruising ground game, so the game itself will be decided in the trenches.

Keys to the game: Who can run the ball and who can stop the run

#CFC50 Prediction: The Harrison Trimble Trojans will upset the Titans
