CFC50 High School Rankings WEEK 2: Cure-Antoine-Labelle causes ripple effect in Quebec

TOP HEADLINES

  • Huge shakeup in Quebec as Cure-Antoine-Labelle deliver Saint-Jean-Eudes their first loss since 2022 in a game that went down to the wire. This leaves College Notre-Dame as the only undefeated program left in DI after they defeated Armand-Corbeil 30-20. So we’ve now had College Notre-Dame defeat Cure-Antoine-Labelle by one point, Cure-Antoine-Labelle defeat Saint-Jean-Eudes by a single digit, and then don’t forget about Charles-Lemoyne, who fell by just three points to the Loups as well. If the early results are any indication we are in for a wild ride come playoff time.

  • Dakota let everyone know they’re still the team to beat in Manitoba putting together a statement 38-1 win over St. Paul’s. Now the question remains are Grant Park and Oak Park pretenders or contenders after hot starts to the season?
  • St. Francis have laid an early claim to the throne in Calgary with a 24-17 victory over the reigning provincial champions Ernest Manning. It’ll be interesting to see where Notre Dame factors into the equation with their season opener against Ernest Manning this week.
  • Citadel have landed the first blow in Nova Scotia with a massive 30-20 week one victory over the defending champs Auburn Drive. It’s very likely that we will see these two meet again down the road with much higher stakes.
  • We witnessed a colossal upset in Ontario where St. Jean de Brebeuf shocked Steeltown with a 17-0 victory over St. John Henry Newman to kickoff the Hamilton Catholic campaign. It’s a monumental turnaround after the Cardinals defeated the Braves 54-0 in their only meeting a year ago, and now it will be very interesting to see how they stack up against the likes of Bishop Tonnos and St. Thomas More.
  • Elsewhere in Ontario we had some intriguing preseason non-conference matchups with Nelson taking down their cross-border rivals Westmount 16-7, and Frontenac getting off on the right foot with a 30-18 victory over St. Matthew.

  • W.J. Mouat join the party after they continued their impressive preseason run of form with a 42-6 victory over Mt. Douglas. They will be tested this week in their final preseason matchup against Terry Fox, which will be a good indicator of where they stand in the BC football hierarchy this year.
