CFC continues to hilite some of the top talent from across the country. Since the schooling system in Quebec is different then the other parts, we dedicate the next couple issues promoting the great players of the CEGEP AAA system.
Here are CFCs top linemen for the 2010 CEGEP AAA season.
Mehdi Abdesmad
Defensive Line
Vieux-Montreal Spartiates
Commitment: Boston College Eagles
Mehdi starting playing football at the age of 9. Team Quebec (2008), Team Canada Juniors (2009), Team World (2010); quite a couple years.
This year Mehdi led the CEGEP AAA league in sacks with 15 (league record), recorded 51.5 tackles and 18 tackles for loss. And CFC believes Mehdi will return with some hardware from this weekends AAA banquet.
Mehdi had this to say to CFC “It was a good experience in my life and I look forward to continue my football career at Boston College.”
Gabriel Barbe
Offensive Line
Vieux-Montreal Spartiates
Commitment: Buffalo Bulls
What a comeback year Gabriel had. After ACL reconstruction surgery Gabriel dominated in the trenches this year for the Spartiates. Like Mehdi, some hardware this weekend is not out of the question.
Gabriel had this to say to CFC “I am really proud of what i did and i will build on that in the future at buffalo.”
Karl Lavoie
Offensive Line
FX Garneau Elans
Commitment: None
Considerations
CIS: Montreal & Laval
Like our other players Karl is no stranger to playing with some great teams. Karl was a member of the gold medal winning Team Quebec’s U17 in 2007 and 2008 (team captain). As well, Karl played for Team Canada juniors’ silver medalist team in 2009.
He played his high school football at l’Externat Saint Jean Eudes and has been apart of the ‘excellence program’ in quebec for a few years. Karl was a CEGEP AAA all star in 2009 and should be this year as well.
Olivier Cain-Tremblay
Defensive Line
Edouard Montpetit Lynx
Commitment: None
Sometimes great players can be hidden on a team that has a losing record but this was not the case with Olivier. Olivier was one sack behind Medhi, finishing the season with 14. He also had 21 tackles and 13 tackles for a loss.
Olivier told CFC “I really enjoyed my time playing Cegep, it is a highly competitive league which has the best players of the province. I am really proud to be one of the most talented defensive lineman for the 2010 season, I have been working really hard for this since my nomination as the best rookie player of the season 2008 in my own team the Lynx of Ćdouard-Montpetit”
Honourable Mentions:
Danny Groulx – Champlain Cougars – Offensive Line
Louis Sirois – Vieux-Montreal Spartiates – Offensive Line
Jean-Samuel Blanc – Vanier Cheetahs – Defensive Line
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
