CIS RECORD WATCH: Milestones up for grabs on final day of regular season

OTTAWA  – A number of standouts could reach impressive milestones on Saturday when the CIS football regular season comes to an end. Here are some players to keep an eye on.

Johnny Mark, kicker, Calgary: Already the highest-scoring player in Canada West history with 384 points, the fourth-year senior currently ranks sixth on the CIS all-time list and, with 16 points against Manitoba tomorrow, he could become only the fourth CIS player to reach 400… The 2014 Saskatchewan Roughriders draft pick is also 10th in CIS career field goals with 64.

Mercer Timmis, running back, Calgary: In only his third season, and despite missing time this fall due to an injury, Timmis enters the Dinos’ league finale with 34 all-purpose touchdowns in his career, only three shy of the CIS top 10… With 32 rushing majors, he needs only two more to reach the career top 10.

Boris Bede, kicker, Laval: The fourth-year standout is right behind Mark in career scoring and field goals, with 335 points (16th on CIS list) and 62 field goals (12th)… Laval wraps up league play at Montreal.

Vincent Desloges, defensive end, Laval: With a CIS-leading 10 sacks in his first seven games this fall, the 2014 Ottawa Redblacks draft pick has already set a single-season school record and is 2.5 shy of the CIS mark.

Hugo Richard, quarterback, Laval: With 22 touchdown passes and 2,440 passing yards in his first seven university games (both CIS highs this season), the super freshman has already set CIS rookie records in both categories… His 22 TD tosses are already a single-season RSEQ record – all players included – and rank 10th on the CIS list, four behind third place… He needs 216 passing yards against Montreal to crack the single-season CIS top 10.

Gabriel Cousineau, quarterback, Montreal: His remarkable 72.7 completion percentage is tops in the country this season and currently ranks third on the CIS all-time list, trailing only a pair of memorable campaigns by former Hec Crighton Trophy winner Benoit Groulx of Laval, who had success rates of 75.2% in 2008 and 73.2% in 2009.

Jared Janotta, receiver, Regina: Heading into the final conference game of his stellar career, the fifth-year senior already holds the Canada West record with 183 receptions, good for ninth place on the CIS list… He would enter the CIS top five with nine catches against Alberta tomorrow.

JΓ©rΓ©mi Roch, quarterback, Sherbrooke: The fourth-year pivot enters the Vert & Or’s league finale against crosstown rival Bishop’s with 689 career completions and 1,175 passing attempts, good for fourth and seventh in CIS annals, respectively.
