Clan schedule includes Division 1 Idaho State

Burnaby, BC – The Simon Fraser University football team will play 11 games in their 2014 season including a trip to Idaho to face the Division I Idaho State Bengals in non-conference play.

On October 4, the Clan will travel to Pocatello for their visit to the 12,000 seat Holt Arena, which was the first indoor college football stadium.

The Bengals play in the Big Sky Conference, and won the first championship in that conference’s history. The program also won the NCAA FCS Championship in 1981.

“Playing a Division I opponent will be a great opportunity for our program to meet with the growth and the vision of what we want to become at SFU,” said Head Coach Jacques Chapdelaine.

Chapdelaine’s first season as head coach of the Clan will kick off on September 6 when the Clan host the Menlo College Oaks in their first non-conference game of the season.

SFU will host their Great Northwest Athletic Conference season opener on September 13 when the Western Oregon Wolves come to town.

There will be a new opponent in the GNAC this season as the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers join the league as an affiliate member for football. The Hardrockers and the Clan will meet once on October 18 when South Dakota makes the trip to British Columbia.

The Clan will begin preparing for their 2014 schedule tonight (Tuesday) as spring camp gets underway.
