Clan shut down the Cougars to win second consecutive game

Burnaby, BC ā€“ The Simon Fraser University football team earned their second consecutive conference victory at home to make school history as they beat Azusa Pacific 66-38.
Box Score
Clan running-back Bo Palmer (North Vancouver, BC) led the offensive charge recording four touchdowns and covering 302 yards on the day.
SFU quarterbacks also had an excellent evening as starter Trey Wheeler (Seattle, WA) continued from his impressive Dixie State performance, throwing 378 yards and four touchdowns during the game.
In the fourth quarter Ryan Blum (Santa Rosa, CA) would step in and rush nine yards for his first touchdown of the season.
Both teams got off to quick starts as play went back and forth in the first half of the game.
SFU was first on the board when a quick rush into the APU half ended near the touch line and Tiernan Docherty (Richmond, BC) capitalised on a field goal opportunity for three points.
The Cougars answered back quickly when a quick Azusa drive resulted in a Terrel Watson touchdown, and an extra point scored by Jamie Cacciatore with 7:58 left in the first quarter.
The back and forth action continued into the second period as the both teams made equally strong charges throughout the half.
With 8:06 remaining in the second period the score was tied at 17 thanks to touchdowns by Jemal Kett (Orangeville, ON), Palmer and a Cougar field goal and touchdown.
SFU took their second lead of the game with 4:31 left in the half when Lemar Durant (Coquitlam, BC) scored a 14 yard Clan touchdown.
Docherty would miss the extra point kick leaving the score 23-17 at the half time buzzer.
Early in the third quarter Palmer scored his second touchdown of the game to increase the Clan lead, but APU responded two minutes later with a Nick Perez touchdown with 9:38 left in the third.
A Docherty field goal for 18 yards would adjust the score to 32-24.
Moments later, Kyle Miller (Cloverdale, BC) picked off the ball and scored a 32 yard touchdown off his interception.
ā€œIā€™ve been waiting five years for that to happenā€, said Miller of his first collegiate touchdown. ā€œWe played well tonight but there is no way Azusa should have scored as many points as they did.Ā  It will be important for us to focus as the season continues and make fewer errors on our own.ā€
Third period scoring would end with Perezā€™s second touchdown of the night, leaving the score 38-31 with one quarter left to play.
Fourth period action was just as exciting as Durant would earn his second touchdown of the game running 37 yards into the end zone.
Palmer would then run back to back touchdowns of 75 and 67 yards respectively.
Blumā€™s six points would be the Clanā€™s final touchdown and the Cougars would score on one last charge with 3:13 left in the game leaving the score finalized at 66-38.
Docherty would be 2 for 3 on field goals on the night.
Important defensive plays were made by Casey Chin (Port Moody, BC) and Mitchell Barnett (North Vancouver, BC), as well as Dylan Roper (North Vancouver, BC) who recorded a sack on the ASU quarterback.
With the win the Clan improve their GNAC conference record to 2-3 and 3-3 total on the season.
The Clan football team is back in action October 13, 2012 in Ellensberg, WA against Central Washington University.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
