Class 2012: Powerful running back Phil Long leaves options open

After having 2 successful season’s with the Mathieu-Martin Matadors, Phil Long is looking at the next level.

Phil Long enjoyed a great season in the New Brunswick high school 10 man division. He often left the opposition bruised and looking for a way to stop the big Running Back. At 6’0, 260 lbs. Phil was often seen as being oversized and would not physically be able to carry the ball for an entire contest. Phil showed that he is able, as he often had over 20 touches per contest.

Phil started playing football in grade 9 with the Fredericton Junior Black Kats for 2 seasons, he won the Maritime Championship in 2009 and then went on to play for The Mathieu-Martin Matadors for the remainder of his high school career. Phil also has an advantage with his size, being able to play offensive and defensive line. Phil showed to be an all around player as he won numerous awards at Running back and offensive line positions. Phil won offensive lineman awards in 2005 and 2009 and also won top offensive player in 2004 , outstanding Running Back in 2006 and won team MVP honours in 2003, 2009 and 2010. Phil was also named a league all star in 2010 and 2011.

“I would like to find a school with a strong program and also the right fit academically” – said Phil.

Phil has been recruited by various school’s, but has interest toward either the Acadia Axemen of Nova Scotia or the university of Montreal Carabins.

“I would like to study Kinesiology, and both Acadia and Montreal have good football and academic programs so they are the 2 schools that i am looking at currently”

Phil also added that none of his success would have been possible without the encouragement of his Family, friends and Most of all his coaches.

“My coaches have always pushed me to become a better football player, they always thought me how to do things right and with the encouragment of my family and friends, everything is always easier”.

Phil would prefer to stay at Running Back but is able to play his other positions if needed.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
