Cooley is uncertain where his CIS destination will be

Matthew Cooley first started competing on the gridiron at the age of 10. He cut his teeth in the South-Side Minor Football Association and once he reached high school, he suited up for the John Barsby Bulldogs, who he currently plays for. Matthew is in his senior year with the Bulldogs. He has racked up some awards as well.

“I have won MVP twice and Offensive MVP once,” Matthew says.

He has thoroughly enjoyed representing the Bulldogs. At 5’10, 180 lbs, Cooley can play multiple positions. To date, he has racked up 58 carries for 600 yards. He averages 120 yards per game rushing. He has 8 touchdowns to his name with only 1 fumble. He also registers 4 catches for 30 yards and 1 touchdown reception. Defensively, Cooley has 17 tackles to his name and has 1 return for 12 yards.

“I have always loved playing for Barsby,” he says. “We are a close team on and off the field, and are always striving to improve personally and as a team.”

Matthew is carefully assessing his options when it comes to CIS football.

“I have not committed to any schools yet, as I am unclear on what I want to do,” Matthew says.

Training is important for any football player and Matthew is no different, as he “currently trains five days a week, twice a day in the gym and on the field.”

Cooley constantly strives to improve himself. “I’m always looking and trying to improve my skills, test my limits,” he says. “Push myself harder to be the best that I can be.”
