Cornwall recruit picks Gee-Gees (VIDEO)

Alex Douglas will be moving on to the next level of his career in the Nation’s Capital.

Recently, the 6’2, 180 pound quarterback from Cornwall, Ontario signed with the Ottawa Gee-Gees.  Douglas will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

For quite some time, the Gee-Gees were courting Douglas.

“I’ve been in contact with Coach Barresi [Head Coach], and Steve Watts [Special Teams Coordinator] since my second year in the OVFL,” recalled the pivot.  “It was the first school that approached me in December of 2014.”

When he took in his first official visit to the school, Douglas liked several different aspects of the campus and football program.

“I went for my first tour; the thing that made me want to go there was how welcoming everyone is,” explained the Cornwall pivot.  “It’s an awesome environment to be in.”

“Most schools are all football, football and football but Ottawa u was different. They made sure we were taken care of on and off the field, whether it be studies, In the weight room, dieting. The coaching staff is amazing. They don’t sugar coat anything, I’m not a guy who buys into that. They tell me how it is; tell me where I have my best shot at playing and where I will succeed. They tell me everything I need to do In order to be a competitive player on the team. I want to be told how it is, because we all know once were in camp we are just another piece of meat. I loved how they provide me everything I need to succeed and be the best player I can.”

Furthermore, academics played a significant role in his decision to commit to the Gee-Gees.

“Ottawa U is a great school and has a lot of academic aid and Coach Barresi does a great job of making sure it’s school more than football because In the end it’s the degree we need, not our 40 time and highlight tape,” added Douglas.

The offensive standout credits strong recruitment for making the decision easier for him.

“Andy Sunstrom helped me throughout the process of being recruited there; he gave me the information, helped me with questions, and told me how it is,” expressed Douglas.  “Being straight up and telling me where my best chances are, I’m glad I chose the Gee-Gees.”

Among the teams Douglas has suited up for during his gridiron career include Cornwall Collegiate Raiders of the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA) and Cornwall Wildcats of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).
