Football Quebec’s Program of Excellence unveil 53 players who move on to the next step to be part of Team Quebec

MONTREAL  – After the conclusion of the selection camp that was held last weekend at the Letendre College in Laval, head coach Brad Collinson (Laval Rouge et Or) and assistant team coaches from six academic programs from the RSEQ circuit have selected 53 players who will go on to the next step with the goal of  becoming part of the provincial team that will represent Quebec at the 2013 Football Canada Cup in Moncton, New Brunsiwck from July 15-21, 2013.

The selection process began in March, when Team Quebec coaches evaluated more than 400 players at three Adidas evaluation camps. At the previous selection camp on June 1 and 2, over 100 of the best players from the province converged and were evaluated.  At the camp, athletes are subjected to a second round of testing from Eric Joly, physical trainer of Football Quebec’s Program of Excellence.

“Our team of coaches had a difficult choice to make, but we are very pleased with our final selection and the work of all these young players, despite the heat,” said head coach Brad Collinson, who himself was part of Team Quebec in 1995, prior to beginning his coaching career.  “We have a very high level of calibre and talent from our young athletes which impresses me every year and is very promising for the future of football in Quebec.”

Of the 105 athletes present, 54 players (the name of a 54th player will be announced by 24 June) are now invited to attend training camp with Team Quebec to be held from July 5 to 13 2013 at Fort St-Jean Campus, St-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Subsequently, 14 of the players will be cut while the other 40 players will travel to Moncton from July 15 to 21, to defend the two consecutive national titles won by Team Quebec in 2011 and 2012 and compete in the Football Canada Cup tournament, which has seven teams participating this year.
