Fabien confirms return to Dinos in 2012

CALGARY – University of Calgary Dinos offensive lineman Kirby Fabien has decided to put his professional football career on hold, electing to return to complete his degree in the fall of 2012.

Fabien, a two-time CIS All-Canadian at right tackle, was drafted in the first round, seventh overall, of the CFL Canadian Draft on May 3 by the B.C. Lions. His agent informed the Lions of his decision to return to school last week, and Fabien confirmed to Dinos head coach Blake Nill that he would return to the team this fall.

β€œI have determined that it is in my best interest to return to the University of Calgary for the 2012-13 year to allow me to complete my degree in economics,” said Fabien, 21. β€œI appreciate being drafted by the Lions and look forward to the opportunity to play in B.C. in the future.”

The 2012 Canada West season opens Saturday, Sept. 1 when the Dinos host the Regina Rams at McMahon Stadium.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
