FCC: Quebec claims second consecutive gold medal over Alberta (VIDEO)

Quebec and Alberta faced off, in what was a rematch of last year’s gold medal, to determine the 2012 Football Canada Cup champion.Β Β The much anticipated game matched up the two best teams in the tournament.

Late in the first quarter, Quebec quarterback/kicker Sam Chenard began his MVP performance with a successful 12 yard field goal attempt at 2:37 to give Quebec the early lead.Β Β The defensive squad for Quebec came up big all day, catching four interception passes thrown by Alberta quarterback Boston Rowe in the first half (three by Mathieu Boutin and another one by Gabriel Bouvette). Chenard relieved starting pivot Michael Arruda late in the first half, also adding another field goal (30 yards) in the last second of the half.Β Β At halftime, Quebec had a 7-1 lead over Alberta.

In the end of the third quarter Chenard connected with running back Jonathon Thebaud for a 43 yard run for a touchdown score.Β Β With 5:31 remaining in the game, Quebec receiver Danny Debrosse-Smith found the end zone after catching a 90 yard pass from Chenard, adding to the team’s lead. Once again, Quebec’s defense came up big as William Jouan-Ladouceur picked off Alberta pivot Chris Merchant’s pass.Β Β Soon after, Boutin caught another interception with over three minutes remaining in the game.Β Β However, Alberta struck back with 1:44 remaining of the game as linebacker Brad Friesen recovered a muffled snap in the end zone.Β Β Quebec won the game by a final score of 21 to 11.
