Fleeing South

Recent Marauders recruit has opted to go NCAA Division 1 route.

An Ontario gridiron standout has opted to go south of the border to begin his university career.

London, Ontario’s Tyler O’Henly has committed with NCAA FBS (Division 1) team, the University of Buffalo Bulls.  He is already taking courses on the campus.

The Bulls are thrilled with the newest addition to the team.

“We are very happy to get a guy with Tyler’s size and athleticism,” commented Bulls Offensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator Adam Shorter.  “As with any player who is making the jump from High School to college there is going to be a learning curve however, he has shown to be very enthusiastic and eager to learn.”

“Since he is on campus early he has been able to train with our team, which is giving him a head start going into college. He has a great frame and good strength to build on. He has all the tools to be a great player at this level.”

The 6’6, 290 pound offensive lineman recently completed his high school career with Mother Teresa Spartans of the Thames Valley Regional Athletic Association (TVRAA).  Moreover, he guided the London Jr Mustangs to the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) Championship title in 2012 and Team Ontario West to a bronze medal finish at the 2012 Football Canada Cup in London, Ontario.

This past May, O’Henly made his Canadian commitment to the OUA’s McMaster Marauders. He is considered to be a blue chip recruit from the Class of 2013.

O’Henly joins a core of Canadians on the Bulls roster.  Ultimately, the team wants to continue the tradition of recruiting talent from north of the border.

“With the addition of Tyler to our roster it brings our total Canadian count up to four,” added Shorter.  “Most notable, Natey Adjei who was recently drafted to the CFL.”

“Natey has one more season with us before going to the CFL or hopefully the NFL. With us being so close to the boarder we see Canada as our local recruiting area and we want to continue to pull the best players in the country to come play for us. Again, being so close they are able to play in front of their friends and families while getting a great education and playing at the highest level.”
