Football BC names Hall of Famer Reda as new president

BURNABY, B.C. – Football BC, also known as the BC Amateur Football Association, is extremely pleased to announce that BC Football Hall-of-Fame member Larry Reda has been named president of the provincial sport organization effective immediately.

This will be Reda’s second stint as president of Football BC. He previously served as president from 1978 to 1983.

Reda takes over from Norm Grdina who has stepped down due to personal reasons.

Reda, who was born and raised in North Vancouver, has been involved with amateur football in British Columbia for over 60 years as a player, coach and administrator. He has coached at every level of amateur football in the province including Community, Minor, Juvenile, High School, and Junior.

As an administrator, in addition to his previous stint as president of Football BC, he has held the positions of director and president of BC Junior Football, executive director of the BC High School Football Association, chairman of the BC High School Championships (Subway Bowl) and general manager of Football BC’s under-18 provincial tackle team.

Reda has also served as the general manager of the BC Firefighters Flag Football team that competes around the world at the World Police & Fire Games. He also started the Western Canadian ‘Clan’ Football Camp at Simon Fraser University, which has since grown to be the largest and oldest full contact football camp in Western Canada.

Reda’s has also earned numerous accolades and honours through his work in football.

He is a Lifetime Member of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL), was the recipient of the Presidents’ Award from BC School Sports in 1996, received the North Shore Community Lifetime Service Award in 2004, received the Lifetime Achievement Award (now the Bob Ackles Lifetime Achievement Award) at the 2004 Orange Helmet Awards dinner, and was inducted into the BC Football Hall of Fame as a builder as part of the inaugural class in 2011. He is also a trustee of the BC Football Hall of Fame.

He was also the recipient of the CFL Commissioner Recognition Award in 2011 as well as the 12th Man North Award from the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks in 2012.

Reda has been married to his wife, Margaret-Anne, for 51 football seasons and have two daughters and four grandchildren.
