Football Nova Scotia recently announced their provincial under-18 “50 man” roster.Ā Players selected on this roster will compete for final travel spots to represent the province in the 2012 Football Canada Cup in London, Ontario.Ā Ā The tournament runs from July 15, 2012 to July 22, 2012. “At this juncture, our under-18 team is proceeding quite well,” comments Team Nova Scotia head coach Pierre Lefebvre.Ā “We have had some pleasant surprises that will make our decisions that much tougher in having to trim our roster down to 40 players.” The 50 man roster is comprised of all players who play high school football in the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL).
Lefebvre says that the offensive unit is steadily progressingĀ under the leadership of offensive coordinator Matt Berry, and assistants Chris Judd (quarterbacks), David Rent (offensive line) and Blair Ryan. “We have two capable quarterbacks in Scott Borden Jr. and Sean Muir,” summarizes Lefebvre.Ā “Our receiving corps is led by Rogan Steele and Ryan Keays.” “On the offensive line we have size and mobility; there are still some competition being waged for amongst this group lead by Ryan Cornish and Justin Murphy.”
As for the defensive side, Team Nova Scotia’s unit is taking shape into becoming a cohesive unit that can mount a challenge against any opposing teams. Defensive coordinator Peter Fraser and assistants Dave Kelly (defensive backs) and Chris Anstey have been instrumental in the guiding this unit. “The competition on the defensive line will determine who prevails with defensive end John Cole and Jesiah Hathaway leading the pack,” adds the Team Nova Scotia head coach.Ā Ā “Our linebacking crew is impressive with the return of Matt Nettle, the addition of Nick Giacomantonio and James Pelly.” “It will provide us with solid individuals.Ā Ā Our secondary is led by returnee Taylor Macdonald and Trae Colley.” The final 40 player roster selections for Team Nova Scotia will be decided after the squad’s exhibition game against Team New Brunswick on June 24th, 2012.
