Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (West Coast): Lineman Cooley wants to play football for as long as he can

It didn’t take long for offensive/defensive lineman, Jay Cooley to fall in love with football. Having only played for one and half years now, he says, “I loved it from the start and want to continue playing as long as I can.”

Cooley decided to try and play football last year when he moved to Belmont high school in Victoria. The 6’4, 265lbs lineman says he loves the challenge. “Football requires good coordination, physical strength and discipline and I enjoy learning new things and improving every practice,” he says.Ā

And while he hasn’t been playing for long, he already has role models that he looks up to.

J. J. Watt is one of my idols because he is so talented and I like the story of how he ended up being in the NFL and became the top defensive player in the NFL.”

In the off-season, Jay will be lifting weights and doing speed, agility, and quickness training with the Belmont football program. “In my time off I enjoy going to the gym for weight lifting and started working on my running/sprinting at a field close to my house.” He adds, “I would like to improve my speed for next season.”

In the immediate future, though, he will be looking to make the team for the CFCFPC.
