Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (Central): Ethan Brydon overcomes “first impressions”

Football is a sport where many athletes are faced with adversity. Some players overcome injuries, or breakthrough a team that kept knocking them down, or some in Ethan Brydon’s case, have to overcome a poor first impression.

Brydon is small in stature (5’7, 130), so very few people believe he can play football, until they step on the field with Brydon. “It’s been fun, I have learned a lot about teamwork and sportsmanship. Also, being a smaller guy I have had to overcome first impressions about me, but all in all, it has been really great and I hope it continues after high school,” says Brydon.

Brydon overcomes his size just as Master Yoda did in Star Wars by not letting it affect his abilities. It was never more evident than when he scored six touchdowns, including two kick returns for touchdowns. He also scored 13 touchdowns in seven games playing at the bantam level.

Many football players have overcome adversity, including his football idol. Although he did not have to overcome size, he did have to overcome another challenge.

“Patrick Peterson is my football role model because of how humble he is and the way he plays the game, and especially how he works so hard to be the best he can be. Also through all that he was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes, which he had to deal with a few years ago, but he fixed his routine and bounced back from it,” says Brydon.

Just like his idol, Brydon is a humble stud. All he wants is to put down a strong performance at the CFCFPC, and let his play speak for itself. “To improve myself, and get recognized by university and college scouts,” says Brydon.

Brydon loves football for no other reason that he feels buzzing on the field. “Football is my passion and when I’m playing football, I just feel alive,” says Brydon.

In the off-season, Brydon works on maintaining his conditioning and improving his hands. “I condition myself a lot and work out to get stronger a lot for the next season. I throw the ball with my dad in our court in front of the house to work on my hands and practice my routes,” says Brydon.
