Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (Central): QB McGriskin loves to prove doubters wrong

This past season Mason McGriskin won the league MVP award after throwing for 2,367 yards completed 72 per cent of his passes, and 29 touchdowns in just seven games. So, how does one improve following such a great season?

“Stay humble,” says McGriskin. It can be difficult to stay humble when you are as good a quarterback as he is. He even made “the league all-star team as a grade 11,” says McGriskin.

Despite his prowess on the field, McGriskin still has his doubters, but if there is one thing he loves more than throwing touchdown passes, it is to prove those doubters wrong. “My football experience has been life changing. Everyday, I work on my craft to be the best that I can be. Every time that I am told ‘I’m not good enough, or big enough’ it fuels me to prove the doubters wrong,” says McGriskin.

McGriskin loves football for two reasons, the brotherhood and the process of becoming great. “I love the concept of team sport, and football is the ultimate team sport. I love suiting up for those 8p.m games under the lights and just balling out with my brothers. The second reason I love the sport of football is the process of becoming the best player you can be, all the work you put in the offseason to get ready for the upcoming season just excites me,” says McGriskin.

In the off-season, McGriskin hits the weights, but he also dedicates a lot of time to football specific workouts. To improve his play, McGriskin “attends as many camps and tryouts as I can, and throwing at 6:30am before school.”

McGriskin’s football idol is Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but his football role model is his head coach. “My football idol would have to be Aaron Rodgers because of his insane ability to make any throw at any position and just how well his feet are, but my football role model would have to be my high school head coach. He has helped me mature so much over the past year, and he has done so much for me, I am grateful for that,” says McGriskin.

McGriskin is a humble young man ready to compete at the CFCFPC. “CFC100 is a goal of any Canadian player to be on a prestigious list like that,” says McGriskin who adds, “My goals for the CFCFPC are to be selected for the grade 11 all-star game against the British Columbia team.”
