Jared Valentino has been playing football since he was eight years old when he got his start in tyke with the Kanata Knights.
The quarterback has been a Knight for eight years now and is currently playing on their bantam team in the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA). He also added the Myers Riders of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) to his resume in his bantam year and is also playing junior varsity with them.
āIāve played quarterback since the age of 11 and trained with many great coaches,ā said Jared. āI have also had the honour of playing in the NCAFA All-Star Game for the past three years.ā
Moreover, the Knight is also participating in this yearās Fox 40 Prospect Challenge. āIām hoping to have the opportunity to work with some exceptional coaches and gain some experience working with new team members and coaches,ā explained the Knight.
During the offseason, he works with his quarterback coach, who he works with all year long. He also follows a program at the gym to increase his speed, develop reflexes and gain strength, as well as attends camps and tryouts.
On the field, his most important role models are his coaches. Wayne Jacobs, an amazing quarterback coach and mentor, teaches him the most important skills a quarterback needs both on and off the field, and is always there when Valentino has needed advice. He also says that Jon Shaw, his quarterback coach with the Knights, supports him during the games, teaches him during practice, and mentors him on and off the field.
āI love football because it is a true team sport,ā commented Jared, āit takes every member of the team to do well and win games.ā
āIt has helped me with my self confidence and discipline and given me the opportunity to meet great mentors an friends,ā added the quarterback.
