Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (Central): DB Francis York University bound

Matthan Francis has been playing football for four years now, and his experience to date has been simply amazing and a blessing.

“Football has taught me many things on and off the field,” said Matthan. “Football taight me that nothing comes easy in life.”

The defensive back currently plays for the St. Roch Ravens in the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) and was a captain of the Brampton Bulldogs in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

Recently. Matthan committed to York University. “Everybody wants the product, but they are not willing to do the process,” said the future Lion. “And to be the best you have to be willing to undergo the process and that is something I do every single day.”

The Lion has participated in the Fox 40 Prospect Challenge in the past, but for this year his goals are to learn and gain new insight and tactics for in game situations and for his position.

During the offseason, he improves his athletic ability and football ability by training on the field.

“I also train in the sand to improve my breaking, explosion and movement,” explained Matthan. “[I] also lift weights to build muscle and my mass to benefit me on the field.”

On the field, his football field his idol is Richard Sherman. Sherman taught him to have fun with the game and not to listen to whatever people say to you, as well as just to strive to be the best in the game.

“I love to play football because football is a game that one play can change the outcome of the game,” commented Matthan. “Also because football is the most competitive sport.”

“Also with football the light is shined on you either you make the play and be a game changer or you don’t and get exposed simply as that,” added the future Lion.
