Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (Central): DB Knight looking forward to competing

Durius Buddington only has played three seasons of football. The defensive back started playing late because until recent years, he was very small and did not have the confidence to play. He now plays in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) with the Brampton Bulldogs.

He also plays with his high school team, the Notre Dame Knights in the Region of Peel Secondary Schools Athletic Association (ROPSSAA), where he won a championship in 2015. The Knight also played football in his last high school season and played running back.

On his first ever run he went for 30 yards. “That was very cool too because I got to use my speed to help my team gain yards,” commented Darius.

“My goals for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) are to of course make the team and compete,” said Darius.

During the offseason he is almost always in the gym or on the field.

“I love training on the field improving my speed, footwork, explosiveness, hands, etc.,” explained the Knight. “Being in the gym and working on the field are so important for me.”

“Since I don’t have the height advantage, I need everything else a good football player would have,” added Darius.

On the field his role model is Tyrann Mathieu because his story is so inspirational and it makes Darius want to work harder every day so he can do the things he does.

“Plus he’s not much bigger than me, so that gives me hope,” commented the defensive back. “Sometimes people notice that I play the way he does without a care in the world other than making plays.”

Darius loves playing football because it is the sport where he finds himself excelling, and he especially loves defence.

“Making big hits is fun because no one expects a small guy to do it,” said the Knight.
