Evan Marshall’s football experience began in elementary school. He was the Ontario Separate School Board high jump champion for three consecutive years and his school coach encouraged him to try out for the flag football team. He then joined the Mississauga Flag Football League before enthusiastically moving on to tackle football with the Mississauga Football League (MFL) Stallions.

The Stallions remained undefeated bantam champions and he received Rookie of the Year. “I loved playing for my high school team,” said Evan. “It felt great getting cheered on by my friends.”

They worked hard together to take on every team in their division. Evan was awarded Offensive MVP before heading to the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) tryouts that winter.

“I loved competing for a spot on team Halton-Peel, it certainly was a thrill to move on to the All Star game and [was] exciting to see my results published and ranked as a sophomore,” explained Evan.

He then decided to enrol with Coach Larry Jusdanis at his 7-on-7 winter camp, where his goal was to find new opportunities to improve and train. “Coach Jusdanis saw my combine results and was so pleased with my natural explosive power and speed that he invited me to join Football North prep school as a defensive back,” commented Evan.

“I was so happy and determined for success that I attended the Ohio State University football camp as a defensive back where the intensity and training was out of this world,” he added. “I loved it.”

The defensive back completed his summer season under Coach Andy Van Oosterhout and they won the 2016 Ontario Football Conference (OFC) junior varsity division championship. He also attended Sports Specific Training under Coach Jusdanis to improve his speed and combine results.

“My Football North experience has been unbelievable, our inaugural season record is 4-5,” explained Evan. “My coaches are so valuable to me, providing me all their experience, guidance and encouragement.” At Football North, the defensive back also gets to explore the defensive end position.

To Evan, the Fox 40 Prospect Challenge is an opportunity to highlight his strengths, as he wants to help shut down opposing teams by taking touchdowns away from them. “My goal is for every single player on the team to gel as we perfect all the plays needed to win,” commented the defensive back.

In terms of playing at the next level, Evan has received interest from McMaster and is currently working towards an NCAA Division 1 school with a strong football heritage and tradition.

“I am working hard now so that opportunities become available in the future,” said Evan. “Trying out and attending an NFL combine may someday be a possibility.”

“My coaches past, present and future will always get a dedicated, hard-working player willing to do my very best for the touchdown or to take it away.”

On the field, his role model is Marcus Allen, who was always a true professional and humble in all he did. As a natural athlete, Allen possessed incredible speed and manoeuvrability, often jumping over his opponents. “He was benched for years but was encouraged by his father, persevering, never quitting and working out at 4:00 a.m. before any of his teammates,” continued Evan. “He was respected by all and elected six times to the Pro Bowl.”

Evan also thanks God for his parents and all of the opportunities that he has been given so far.
