Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (West Coast): “Football is incredible” says ATH Bennett

Having played football for seven years now, Jake Bennett is a versatile athlete. He plays multiple positions; receiver, defensive back, and returner. This past season, he registered 32 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 1 touchdown. In his sophomore year as a receiver, he had 495 yards to go along with 6 touchdowns, and also won the Sophomore Best Back award that year.

The 6’0, 165lbs athlete is currently playing with the Handsworth Royals in BC, and has it in his mind to chase the CFC100 carrot. “Yes, being able to be on the CFC100 list would be an amazing and humbling accomplishment,” he said when we asked if being on the CFC100 list was a goal of his going into his graduating year.

However, it’s not all that Bennett is chasing. He says he would like to participate in the East/West game in BC and to make the grade 11 travel team and play in Ottawa for the CFCFPC.

In order to get himself prepared for these goals, Jake plans on working Game Ready to improve his field skills and knowledge of football. He also says that he is working out 4-5 times per week with speed and footwork training to get faster and stronger for the upcoming season. “I have set high goals for speed and strength and am doing my best to achieve them for my upcoming senior season,” he says.

Football has been everything to me since I was 9 years old. It’s what gets me up in the morning and it’s what pushes me to succeed in school as well as be an active person in the community,” adds Bennett.

Looking up to Doug Baldwin, WR for the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL, Bennett admires his tenacity and drive. “[…] he is an undersized, underrated wide receiver who went undrafted in 2011, never gave up, and is now one of the elite receivers in the NFL.”

With these high expectations and great role models to look up to, it’s no wonder the passion Bennett has.

I love the game and love the team atmosphere. Football is incredible.”
