Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (Central): McQueen, a force in the middle

There are many reasons that lead people to play football, but for Jesse McQueen it was to give him something to do, and he never looked back.

“Football started for me in grade seven, when I just needed something to do instead of always being on the streets,” says McQueen.

The young man has grown to become a 6’3’’, 210lbs linebacker/defensive end menace terrorizing opposing offenses in Ontario. McQueen has wrecked many game plans this season as he recorded 41 solo tackles, 28 assisted tackles, 2.5 sacks, and even got in on special teams by blocking a kick.

A member of the York Region Lions, McQueen idolizes a recently retired NFL legend, Ray Lewis. Lewis is one of the greatest middle linebackers to ever play in the National Football League, so there is a lot anybody would want to emulate.

But, what stuck for McQueen was not Lewis’ physical abilities, strength, or speed, but his consistency, “it’s really interesting how consistent he was,” says McQueen. Being consistent is also something that matters to McQueen, “I think that helps me set a goal for my own level of skill,” adds McQueen.

McQueen is a man of few words, but he believes that with a strong performance during the CFCFPC, his stock will increase because, as he says, “actions speak louder than words.” Being a part of the CFCFPC would give him “more exposure to the coaches that are out there,” says McQueen.

In Friday Night Lights, Jason Street says that football is 12-months, 365-days commitment, and this certainly applies to McQueen who trains in the offseason with the mindset of being better the following year.

“The off season is my time to train harder and get more focused of where I want to be in the next season,” says McQueen.
