Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (Central): LB/DB Bannon ready to grow as an athlete

Hunter Bannon first started his football career three years ago during the summer before Grade 8.

At that time he was playing for the local Ontario Provincial Police league, where he played a variety of positions, mostly on the offensive line.

“It was then I realized how much I enjoyed playing the game,” said Hunter, who didn’t really become serious about football until his first year of high school.

The linebacker/defensive back has played in the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association (KASSAA) with the Napanee District Golden Hawks for the last two years.

Hunter, who also occasionally plays receiver, is trying out for the AAA Kingston Grenadiers this summer.

“It has been through the different leagues that I have learned how football can be both fun and competitive,” added the Golden Hawks. “I feel that I have grown as an athlete during my times of playing football.”

His goals for this year’s Fox 40 Prospect Challenge are to grow as a team player and as an athlete.

“I think that the CFCFPC will put me in a new environment with unique challenges that will further my athletic and football abilities,” commented Hunter.

During the offseason, he maintains his athletic ability by playing a variety of sports while still working out. He also takes part in football workouts that his coaches and teammates put together, which helps to further his athleticism and football ability.

On the field, his idol is Bill Belichick because he finds his abilities as a coach motivational in the way he is able to lead his team to victory consistently.

“I also am inspired in how he can keep his team on top by having them still work each year to reach their full potential,” continued Hunter.

Hunter loves to play football because it is a game that brings people together by challenging them mentally and physically.

“You get to meet so many new people and make friends with your teammates,” explained the Golden Hawk. “I also love to play it because the game is challenging and strategic.”

“When playing football you need to know how the other team works and thinks,” added Hunter.

He also loves football because it is a very physical game that requires the player to be fit and ready for whatever is thrown their way.
