Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (West Coast): Merritt accredits team for “amazing football experience”

One year is not a long time to get completely hooked on something, but offensive/defensive lineman, Reilly Merritt, is completely hooked. “I love football because I feel like I’m part of a family when put on the cleats and I’m with my team.  It’s such a fun and physical game and I’m a physical guy,” he says.

Since joining the Belmont Bulldogs in Victoria, BC, Merritt has had an “amazing football experience”. This led him to want to learn more. For the CFCFPC, his goals are “Just to have fun and challenge myself and see how I can improve my game so I can beat my opponents.”

The young player has already begun to establish himself in this short time as he won the 2016 Jr. Varsity Outstanding Lineman award for the Bulldogs.

While he doesn’t graduate for another two years, that isn’t keeping Reilly from doing everything now to be the best he can be. During the off-season, he lifts 3 to 4 times per week and goes running 2 to 3 times per week.

When we asked if he looks up to any particular sports figure, he replied, “Marshawn Lynch because he gives it everything he has, doesn’t try to be anyone else and he does lots of charity work.”
