Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (Central): Price shooting for the top 100

Mitchell Price started playing football at the young age of seven and has loved it ever since.

He got his start with the Orangeville Outlaws in the Ontario Minor Football League (OMFL) before deciding to go to Brampton to play with the Bulldogs in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

This season, Mitchell decided to go and play in the Ontario Provincial Football League (OPFL) with the Guelph Jr. Gryphons.

In the past he has done a few CIS camps and have had unofficial visits to Western and McMaster, as well as in last year’s Ontario Prospect Challenge game.

“For this year, I have been attending the FPC tryouts and recently went to a football tournament in Canton, Ohio with Football North,” said Mitchell, who started high school this year and played as a starter with the Robert F. Hall Wolfpack in the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA).

During that high school season, he got six sacks, 10 solo tackles, four tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, two forced fumbles and six games played.

Mitchell’s goal for this year’s CFCFPC is to have a good performance in the top 100. “I’m working to improve my 40 yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump and other combine drills,” added the Gryphon. “I’m hoping to make the final roster and have another MVP performance.”

During the offseason, he works hard in the weight room to become a stronger and faster player. He also plays high school basketball in the winter to keep up his conditioning. “I find that playing basketball has also helped increase my speed and vertical jump for football,” commented Mitchell.

On the field, his idol is Ray Lewis because he was always a team-first type of player. Lewis would help motivate his team when they needed it most, and he was a great tackler and would always make plays with his speed, size and his overall football intelligence. “I aspire to be this team-first type of player, along with making huge plays on defence,” explained the Gryphon.

Mitchell loves to play football because it is a great game and he has always had a passion for it.

“Overall, I just love the experience that you get while playing football,” said Mitchell. “It’s a rush when you make a good play.”
