Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (West Coast): Day loves his teammates like “family”

It hasn’t taken long for this young athlete to find a new family. Dawson Day has only been playing on the gridiron for one year, but he says his football experience has allowed him to “love his teammates like family”. “[…] each person tries their hardest to do what’s best for the team,” he says.

The 5’10, 163-pounds athlete plays multiple positions for the College Heights Cougars in the BC high school football league. Being able to play receiver, running back, defensive back, and kicker has made him very versatile already in his young career. He registered 43 tackles, 4 TFL’s, 4 sacks, 260 receiving yards on 9 receptions and 7 touchdowns, and 411 rushing yards on 26 carries, averaging 16 yards per carry in 7 games this past season.

“My goals are to be good enough to be able to play college or university level football,” he says.

With a role model like Marshawn Lynch, Day would be hard pressed not to be motivated. “My football role model is Marshawn Lynch because even though he isn’t the fastest player he was nearly impossible to take down and he just kept pushing through,” replied when we asked him if he has any role models that he looks up to.

What makes football fun for Day is the passion and spirit of the game. But he also plays other sports to help him become a better football player.

In the off-season, Day plays hockey and soccer to help him with his conditioning as well as going to the gym to work out and/or practice his skills.

With a lot of football left to play, Day can continue to add to his football family as his career goes on and he gets more and more entrenched in a game that many call home.
