Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (West Coast): Mt. Douglas Ram, Grohovac, loves his football brotherhood

Defensive Lineman of the Year and team captain of the AAA varsity, Mt. Douglas Rams, Phil Grohovac is a seasoned athlete. Registering 29 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, Grohovac is a steady leader for his team and looks up to Joe Staley.

My Football idol is Joe Staley, because he is a funny guy and a good teammate off the field and on field he a leader and very gritty.”

Playing for seven years, he started with the Saanich Wolverines from grades 4-8 playing Spring ball. He then played one season with the Victoria Hitman in grade 6 and two seasons with the Victoria Renegades in grades 7 and 8. He was selected to play on Team BC in grade 8 where they travelled to Seattle for a tournament. He then continued to play on the Team BC U16 team that travelled to Manitoba for the Red River Cup. He was also selected to the Youth All-star team to travel and play in Atlanta.

And while he uses the CFCFPC to get noticed and keep playing as long as he can, he also says that being on the CFC100 top prospects list is something that he is working hard to get on. “Yes being on the top 100 list would be a goal, because being the best at what I love is always my goal. It would be an honour to be selected to the top 100 the talent in Canada is impressive,” he says.

In the off-season, Grohovac will be doing speed school and agility training with Dacre Bowen, four to five times per week and weight training four days per week.

“I love the team culture, I love that the more successful I am in my one on one battles the more I help my team succeed. There is nothing like the brotherhood of a football team.”
