Saturday night in Ottawa the AKO Fratmen saw their perfect start slipping away.
Down nine Β points and the offense struggling, Β they suddenly came to life and defeated the Ottawa Sooners 22-17.
Quarterback Austin Lumley (Herman HS) scored two fourth quarter touchdowns including the game winning 45 yard strike to wide receiver Β Shayne Rice (St. Stephens β Bowmanville) with 1:03 remaining in the game.
The Ottawa Sooners drove deep into Fratmen territory in final minute but a defensive stand sealed the win for the Fratmen.
Lumley had been removed from the game in favor of veteran quarterback Christian Hackney (Sandwich) but Head Coach Mike LaChance stuck with his starter and was rewarded.
Lumley also had a 56 yard strike to Jason Blondeau (Grand River β Whitby) to pull to within two points. Other scores came from defensive back Josh Wright (Catholic Central) who had a 52 yard punt return touchdown in the first quarter and singles from kicker Matt Paonessa (Lajeunesse) and punter Dan Fox (Wallaceburg District).
The Fratmen will look to continue their hot start next Saturday Aug 31 at Windsor Stadium. The home opener will be aired on TVCOGECO Cable 11/700 and kickoff time has been moved to 2:05pm.
