From Gladiator to X-Men

August Danyluk of the Sudbury Gladiators of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC)  is moving onto bigger things this fall with the St. Francis Xavier X-Men.

The Gladiator’s wide receiver is one of the two university commits on the team, and plans to study human kinetics.

“[I am] most looking forward to being a part of a storied program where everyone is looking to accomplish the same goal,” said Danyluk of his commitment.

Other universities looked at the wide receiver, but none of the other offers were as serious.

“[It has] a great atmosphere, a great program [and] great everything,” commented Danyluk on why he chose X-Men.  “Also, my mom is a graduate.”

Danyluk started his football career in Joe MacDonald Youth Football, playing for the Lo-Ellen Pirates and the New Sudbury Hurricanes. In high school he played for the St. Charles Cardinals of the Sudbury District Secondary School Athletic Association (SDSSAA), where he learned to take football seriously from Coach Fabiilli.

Danyluk considers Fabiilli an influence in his football career, as well as his coach from the Lo-Ellen Pirates, Coach Jay.

“He is the best coach I’ve ever had,” said Danyluk. “He made football fun.”

The Gladiator also added that his dad and many other people have influenced him in the sport.

Danyluk hopes to improve on all of his skills as he makes the big move into university football.
