Golden opportunity

Team Alberta offensive lineman the 11th commit to sign with CWUAA team in September.

A CWUAA team that made a major recruitment splash earlier this month has landed another recruit.

Offensive lineman Kyle Beaton is the latest player to commit to the University of Alberta Golden Bears. The 6’1, 210 pound standout from Spruce Grove, Alberta had several key reasons for committing to the team and liked the opportunity it presented to him.

“The University of Alberta is the best suited place for me,” explained Beaton.  “It is close to home and the coaching staff is the best around, in my opinion.”

“I am also excited about the opportunity that Head Coach Chris Morris is giving me to start learning a new position, that of fullback, which I have always wanted to play. Another factor is that I am pretty close with a number of players who have sign with the Bears and are on this year’s roster. Some of us played together on either Team Alberta or the Spruce Grove Panthers. We have built up a good chemistry and understanding of how the other plays.”

Ultimately, Beaton is impressed by the promise the team has shown and is thrilled to be a part of a team who will be on the rise in the coming years.

“I believe that the Bears will be a top team in the CIS after these couple of rebuilding years, and I am excited to be a part of that,” expressed the Alberta offensive lineman.

Beaton will join the Golden Bears after completing his high school career with Spruce Grove Panthers of the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA).  This past summer, he represented his home province as a member of Team Alberta at the 2012 Football Canada Cup in London, Ontario.
