Greater Toronto Football League at half way point of first season: hydrate

With 13 volunteer coaches and just under 100 players, the 2011 GTFL season is well underway. When walking the fields, it is amazing to hear the parents comment about the improvement in skill, the sense of teamwork and the sportsmanship that is being shown on the football field. The players have certainly come a long way from the first cold and wet practice in April.

And now that the warm weather is (finally) here, it is important to make sure that you and your player are prepared for practices and games. During the last few weeks, there have been some very hot days. Please know that practices will not be cancelled. However, the coaches will modify the practice accordingly. In addition, the importance of proper hydration cannot be overstated. It is not enough to drink during the games and practices. Players must begin and continue to drink water throughout the day, including during and after the practice or game.

As the GTFL heads into the second half of the season, plans are already underway for the 2012 GTFL season. In order to make the GTFL’s second year even better, I welcome your feedback. Please speak to me or send me an email with any comments and suggestions.
